GRENADIERS FALL TO IU KOKOMO SATURDAY

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – A quick start by the IU Kokomo women's basketball team's offense was the difference in an 87-62 win over IU Southeast on Saturday.

The Grenadiers fell behind 27-6 in the first quarter as the Cougars were led by Anya Friend's 17 points in the first period. She was 6-for-6 from the field and had five three-pointers, leading to a 29-10 IU Kokomo lead after one.

Friend had 22 of her 24 points in the first half. IU Southeast trailed 47-22 at halftime.

The Grenadier offense began to find some rhythm in the third quarter as they shot 50 percent from the field in the period. Leah Miller (8) and Lauren Lambdin (5) had 13 of the 17 points in the frame.

The IU Southeast offense perimeter offense began to click in the fourth quarter. The Grenadiers hit five three-pointers in the final 10 minutes of play. Lauren Lambdin had eight points and two three-pointers in the period and Miller had seven points and one trey.

Leah Miller led the Grenadiers with 23 points and Lambdin added 18.

A key in the contest was three-point shooting. The Cougars shot 42 percent from behind-the-arc in the game (10-of-24) to the Grenadiers' 33 percent. IU Kokomo also scored 19 points off of 12 Grenadier turnovers.

The Grenadiers host Oakland City Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
