IU Southeast Defeats Brescia 86-73 On Senior Day

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball team soared past Brescia 86-73 on Saturday.

Emmy Ralph led the way with 19 points, Kirstie Henn had 17 points and eight rebounds, Lauren Lambdin had 16 points and Alex Maher was a spark off the bench with 13 points and seven rebounds. Collette Nice had eight points, nine rebounds and four blocks for the Grenadiers.

IU Southeast (5-4) had a slow start trailing by as many as six with the end of the first quarter belonging to Brescia as they outscored the Grenadiers 17-13.

Brescia seemed to have a rhythm IU Southeast couldn't match gaining a 22-13 lead until the Grenadiers used an 11-4 run tying the game at 26. From there, the Grenadiers gained momentum and finished the half with a 37-30 lead over the Bearcats. Kirstie Henn and Emmy Ralph seemed to be the difference makers with Henn adding 10 points and Ralph had seven in the first half. Henn and Nice had five rebounds each.

The third quarter was more of the same and turnovers seemed to play a key role in the Grenadiers' success. IU Southeast held Brescia to just 29 percent shooting in the third quarter and 1-of-7 shooting from three-point range. Ralph, Lambdin and Nice led the Grenadiers in the quarter with eight points apiece, and the Grenadiers outscored the Bearcats 29-17 in the period.

The largest lead for the Grenadiers came in the fourth quarter by 21 (79-58). IU Southeast forced 22 turnovers on Brescia and added pressure to their game. Offensive rebounds also played a key factor in the Grenadiers' success and win as they doubled up the Bearcats 12-6.

The Grenadiers' lone senior, Josie Woods, had seven points and six rebounds on her Senior Day.

IU Southeast takes on Alice Lloyd College at home Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
