NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Matt Monahan drove in four, starter Hunter Kloke went five strong innings and relievers Trevor Reynolds and Jacob Frankel shut down Midway in an 11-1 win for the Grenadiers on Senior Day.
The Grenadiers (36-13, 23-1 RSC) opened the scoring with a four-run second inning. Marco Romero singled, stole second and scored on a RBI double by Ben Berenda. John Ullom doubled to score Berenda. Then Monahan drove in Jake Scott and Berenda with a single.
Midway got on the board in the top of the third when Max Hill singled to left after back-to-back singles by Skylar Lucas and Marquise Glenn.
The IU Southeast bats were uncharacteristically quiet until a seven-run fifth inning put the game away.
Matt Monahan hit a two-run home run for his 13th homer of the year to start the rally. Ben Berenda drove in Brayden Hazelwood with a RBI single. Jake Scott followed with a RBI double to score Romero who had walked.
Daunte DeCello hit a two-run double to center and then John Ullom scored on a passed ball.
Hunter Kloke worked five innings and allowed one run on six hits. He walked two and struck out five. Trevor Reynolds and Jacob Frankel each worked a scoreless inning to nail down the win.
Matt Monahan was 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI. Ben Berenda had two hits and drove in two and Daunte DeCello also drove in a pair.
IU Southeast hosts Cumberland University Monday at 5 p.m. in the final home game for the Grenadiers in the 2021 campaign.
