SHORT-HANDED IU SOUTHEAST DEFEATS OHIO CHRISTIAN 75-71

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team defeated Ohio Christian 75-71 in a contest that saw the Grenadiers have just six active players.

The Grenadiers were well-balanced offensively with all five starters scoring in double digits. Emmy Ralph was a jack of all trades for IU Southeast, stuffing the stat sheet with 19 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Leah Miller added 15 points and five assists, and Alex Maher scored 12 points while grabbing a team-high nine rebounds. Brynna Blackburn and Lauren Lambdin finished with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

IU Southeast (7-11, 3-6 RSC) gave up a 5-0 run to start the game, but quickly answered with a 7-0 run of their own to take a 7-5 lead. After an Alex Maher free throw gave IU Southeast a 16-14 lead, Ohio Christian answered with a three-pointer to take a 17-16 lead into the second quarter.

A 6-0 IU Southeast run early in the second quarter gave the Grenadiers a 24-19 lead. Ohio Christian answered in a major way, going on an 11-0 run of their own to take a 30-24 advantage. A Brynna Blackburn three cut the Grenadier halftime deficit to just one at 32-31.

The Grenadiers started the second half with a 7-0 run on three jumpers by Brynna Blackburn, giving IU Southeast a 38-32 lead. A quick 5-0 run later in the third quarter gave IU Southeast their largest lead at 56-44. Ohio Christian cut the lead to six, but a three-point play by Lauren Lambdin gave the Grenadiers a 59-50 lead after three.

Maddie Knight hit two free throws at the beginning of the fourth quarter to extend the Grenadier lead back to double digits, but Ohio Christian responded with a 12-0 run capped off with a four-point play to give the Blazers a 62-61 lead. Two free throws from each side brought the score to 64-63 Ohio Christian with 5:50 left in the game.

A 6-0 run by IU Southeast gave the Grenadiers a 69-64 lead with 4:15 to play. Ohio Christian hit a three, but Emmy Ralph answered with a three-pointer of her own to bring the Grenadier lead back to six. Not to be outdone, Ohio Christian responded with a 5-0 run to cut the Grenadier lead to 72-71. Ohio Christian got the ball back down two, but a missed jumper and two Leah Miller free throws gave IU Southeast a 75-71 lead.

The turnover battle is what shifted the game in favor of the Grenadiers. IU Southeast forced 19 turnovers while committing just three of their own. The Grenadiers scored 18 more points off turnovers than Ohio Christian.

IU Southeast returns home to battle conference rival IU East on Tuesday.
