POINT PARK DEFEATS IU SOUTHEAST 87-71

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – A third-quarter surge by Point Park was the difference as the Pioneers defeated IU Southeast 87-71 on Friday.

Point Park (13-6, 6-4 RSC) outscored the Grenadiers 49-34 in the second half and 35-12 in the third quarter to pull away.

The Grenadiers shot the ball well to start the game and were led by Lauren Lambdin's 11 first-quarter points. The Grenadiers were 6-of-9 from three-point range in the first quarter with Lambdin (3) and Emmy Ralph (2) combining for five of the three-pointers. IU Southeast led 22-21 after one period.

Brynna Blackburn three-pointer extended the Grenadier lead to 27-21 early in the second quarter but the Pioneers chipped away at the deficit and cut the lead to 29-26. Blackburn answered with consecutive three-pointers to push the lead to 35-28 but Point Park closed the period on a 10-2 run to take a 38-37 lead at halftime.

The third quarter belonged to Point Park. The Pioneers were 13-of-21 from the field in the quarter (62 percent) and connected on five of six three-point attempts. Taylor Rinn had 14 points in the quarter and Michelle Burns added 11.

The IU Southeast offense came back to life in the fourth quarter as they were 8-of-10 from the field led by Ralph's 10 points.

Emmy Ralph led the Grenadiers with 20 points in the contest. She added five rebounds and three assists. Lauren Lambdin had 18 points, four rebounds and three assists and Brynna Blackburn provided a spark off the bench with 14 points on five-of-seven shooting.

Michelle Burns had 26 points and Taylor Rinn added 24 in the win for Point Park.

Point Park scored 17 points off of 11 IU Southeast turnovers to help pad their lead.

IU Southeast hosts Carlow University Saturday at 3 p.m.
