Box Score OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team cruised to an 86-62 victory over Oakland City on Saturday.
The first half began with Oakland City jumping out to a 9-3 advantage following a 7-0 run. Oakland City took a 16-11 lead, but the Grenadiers scored five straight to tie the game at 16-16. A Mighty Oaks three gave Oakland City a 19-16 lead, but IU Southeast answered with five straight points to jump back in front 21-19.
After Oakland City tied the game at 23-23, the Grenadiers went on a 7-0 run to take a 30-23 advantage. A 6-0 run by the Mighty Oaks cut the IU Southeast lead to 30-29, but IU Southeast scored six straight of their own to extend their lead back to seven. The Grenadiers saw their lead grow to as many as eleven points in the first half. IU Southeast led 43-33 at halftime.
The Grenadiers used two Anthony Wales Jr. free throws to extend their lead to 49-36 at the start of their second half. A 7-0 run by Oakland City narrowed the Grenadier lead to 49-43. After a layup by Oakland City cut the IU Southeast lead to 51-45, the Grenadiers went on a 15-0 run to take a commanding 66-45 lead. Armani Carr sparked the run with a three and Jocobi Hendricks had six points during that rally to put the game away.
Oakland City hit two free throws to cut the Grenadier lead to 19, but IU Southeast scored six straight of their own to extend their lead to 25 at 72-47. A 10-0 run later in the half gave the Grenadiers an 84-51 lead, IU Southeast's largest lead of the game. The Grenadiers went on to defeat Oakland City 86-62.
Jocobi Hendricks led the Grenadiers with 25 points, three assists and three steals. Anthony Wales Jr. added 18 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Armani Carr scored 14 points off the bench. Starters Glenn Hill and Lane Lauderbaugh scored 13 points and 11 points, respectively.
IU Southeast moved to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in RSC play. The Grenadiers return to action Tuesday at Kentucky Wesleyan.
