Grenadiers Use Fourth Quarter Rally to Defeat Northwestern Ohio 57-54

LIMA, OH. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team outscored Northwestern Ohio 23-4 in the fourth quarter en route to a 57-54 comeback win on Saturday.

The Grenadiers jumped out to a 5-2 lead following a three by Emmy Ralph. A three by Leah Miller gave IU Southeast an 8-7 advantage. After a jumper by Emmy Ralph put the Grenadiers ahead 12-11, Northwestern Ohio hit a layup to take a 13-12 advantage into the second quarter.

Another three by Emmy Ralph put IU Southeast ahead 17-15 at the beginning of the second quarter. Northwestern Ohio answered with a 12-0 run to take a 27-17 lead. The Racers took a 31-24 lead into halftime.

Emmy Ralph led the Grenadiers with 13 first half points. Sierra Graham added four points and grabbed seven first half rebounds. Lauren Lambdin scored two points and grabbed four first half rebounds for IU Southeast.

The Grenadiers cut the Racer lead to 31-28 at the start of the third quarter, but Northwestern Ohio used a 6-0 run to extend their lead back to nine. The Racers used another 6-0 run later in the quarter to take a 43-29 lead. A Brynna Blackburn three cut the Racer lead to 47-34, but Northwestern Ohio answered with a half court shot to take a 50-34 lead after three quarters.

IU Southeast, using their full court press, stymied the Racers in the fourth quarter. IU Southeast scored 12 straight points to cut the lead to 50-47. A three-point play by the Racers extended their lead back to six at 53-47. Northwestern Ohio led 54-50 with 2:33 left. Three straight points by Emmy Ralph cut the Racer lead to one at 54-53.

Northwestern Ohio missed a three and fouled on the rebound, giving Sierra Graham two free throws to allow the Grenadiers to take their first lead since the first quarter. Graham hit both foul shots, giving IU Southeast a 55-54 lead.

An Emmy Ralph free throw gave IU Southeast a 56-54 advantage with 23 seconds left. The Racers missed a three, and Ralph hit another free throw with six seconds left to give the Grenadiers a 57-54 advantage. Northwestern Ohio had a shot to tie it at the end of the fourth quarter, but Lauren Lambdin blocked the shot to give IU Southeast a 57-54 comeback victory to move to 3-0 on the season.

Emmy Ralph was the only Grenadier in double digits, scoring 25 points in the contest. Sierra Graham added nine points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Lauren Lambdin stuffed the stat sheet, scoring eight points while grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out two assists, blocking two shots and swiping three steals. Brynna Blackburn scored six points on two second half three pointers.

The Grenadiers return home to play their home opener Tuesday vs Simmons.
