Fourth Quarter Rally Sends Oakland City Past IU Southeast 55-53

OAKLAND CITY, In. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team fell 55-53 in a heartbreaker to Oakland City on Saturday.

Glenn Hill led the Grenadiers with 18 points. Ahmad Price scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds in the contest. Jomar Sullivan led the Grenadiers with seven rebounds in 16 minutes.

IU Southeast scored the first basket of the game, but Oakland City jumped out to a 7-2 lead after a quick 7-0 run. The Grenadiers answered with a 9-0 run of their own to take a 11-7 advantage. An Anthony Wales Jr. three pointer put the Grenadiers in front 16-13, a lead that they would hold for the rest of the first half.

The Grenadiers led by as many as seven in the first half, but four straight free throws by Jamarcus Clark cut the Grenadier lead to 25-22. A Jathan Ritter layup right before the first half buzzer gave IU Southeast a 30-26 advantage going into halftime.

Glenn Hill led the Grenadiers with 14 first half points. Anthony Wales Jr. scored seven points on 3-4 shooting. Both teams struggled from the field in the first half, especially from behind the three-point line. The teams went a combined 2-14 from long range.

Up 38-32 early in the second half, the Grenadiers used a 6-0 run to take a 12-point lead. A Caleb Brown three gave the Grenadiers their largest lead at 49-36. Oakland City responded with a 13-3 run to cut the IU Southeast lead to just three. Ahmad Price connected on a free throw to give the Grenadiers a 53-49 lead with three minutes remaining.

Oakland City cut the lead to one on a layup by Nathaniel Schmittler. Oakland City's Tyquez Priester connected on two free throws to give Oakland City a 54-53 lead with 21 seconds left. Ahmad Price missed the potential go-ahead jumper with six seconds left, but the game was not over. Abdul Wurie was fouled after the Oakland City rebound, sending him to the line for two. Wurie missed both, but Oakland City secured the offensive rebound with less than a second remaining.

Abdul Wurie went one for two at the line, but there was not enough time for IU Southeast to get a shot off, giving Oakland City the 55-53 victory. Oakland City shot 36 free throws in the contest, 25 more than IU Southeast. Oakland City finished the game on a 19-4 run, securing the victory despite not hitting a single three-pointer.

The Grenadiers finished the regular season 14-16 overall and 11-7 in conference play. The men shift their focus to the RSC Tournament, which tips off next week. Matchups, brackets and game times will be announced later this weekend by the conference.
