IU SOUTHEAST DEFEATS BRESCIA 86-61 BEHIND MAHER'S 20-POINT, 20-REBOUND PERFORMANCE

NEW ALBANY, In. – A career night for Alex Maher led IU Southeast to an 86-61 victory over Brescia.

Alex Maher had career highs in both points and rebounds in the contest, scoring 20 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. Emmy Ralph added another 20-point game to her superb season, scoring 26 points while dishing out seven assists. Hannah Corus scored 10 points and brought down seven rebounds in a starting role. Brynna Blackburn had a near double-double off the bench, scoring eight points and grabbing nine rebounds.

IU Southeast (9-13, 5-8 RSC) jumped out to an early 13-5 lead behind a quick seven points from Lauren Lambdin. After two free throws from Brescia, the Grenadiers responded with an Emmy Ralph three-pointer  to beat the first quarter buzzer. IU Southeast led 26-12 after one.

The Grenadier defense stymied the Brescia offense in the second quarter. After Brescia scored the first two points of the quarter, IU Southeast scored the next 10 points, holding the Brescia offense scoreless for over four minutes. The Grenadiers used a 6-0 run to end the quarter and took a 45-23 lead into halftime.

Emmy Ralph led the Grenadiers with 15 first-half points. Alex Maher had nine points and nine rebounds at the half, including six offensive boards. IU Southeast shot just under 50 percent from the field in the first half and held Brescia to 8-26 shooting.

IU Southeast held their ground in the third quarter, not allowing Brescia to get any closer than 17 points. An Alex Maher putback off an offensive rebound gave the Grenadiers a 19-point advantage, and Emmy Ralph followed with a shot from beyond half court to beat the third quarter buzzer to extend the lead to 22. IU Southeast took a 63-41 lead into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was much of the same for IU Southeast. The Grenadiers maintained their lead, extending their advantage to as many as 29 in the final quarter. A Myah Bagshaw jumper was the final basket of the offensive outburst by the Grenadiers, as they would go on to cruise to an 86-61 victory.

The Grenadiers dominated the rebound battle, outrebounding Brescia 51-30 in the contest. Alex Maher had nine offensive rebounds, four more than Brescia had as a team. IU Southeast used the rebounds to their advantage, scoring 15 second chance points.

The Grenadiers stay home to host Asbury University on Tuesday
