NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team got off to a quick start against Brescia and did not look back as they swept the Bearcats on Friday.
IU Southeast opened the match by using a 10-2 run to take a commanding lead.
Cate Murphy and
Ella Brooks each had aces and Brooks,
Allison Daves and
Emilee Organ all had kills during that stretch.
The Grenadiers put the set away with a 6-0 run to take a 19-6 lead. The Grenadiers were aided by three errors in that run and
Abby Ruzanka and Brooks each had kills while Murphy added an ace.
A final 6-0 run won the set for IU Southeast that was capped of by an ace from
Ella Brooks.
In the second set, the Grenadiers led 12-10 when
Emilee Organ recorded kills on two of the next three points to give IU Southeast a 14-11 lead.
The Bearcats cut the lead to one after a kill and an attack error. But IU Southeast answered with a 4-0 run.
Emilee Organ, Brooks,
Abby Marks and Ruzanka recorded kills to extend the lead to 18-13.
Kills by
Ella Brooks and
Reagan Ealy followed by an ace by Brooks forced set point and a service error ended the set.
Brescia took a 15-13 lead in the third set but IU Southeast took the lead with a quick rally.
Emilee Organ had back-to-back kills followed by an ace by
Abby Marks to give IU Southeast a 16-15 lead.
The Grenadiers led 19-18 but pulled away for good with a 4-0 run. A service error sparked the run followed by a block by Ruzanka and Kramer, a kill by Brooks and an ace by Ealy.
Consecutive kills by Brooks won the match for the Grenadiers.
Ella Brooks had 12 kills to lead IU Southeast,
Emilee Organ had 10 and
Abby Ruzanka added seven. IU Southeast totaled 43 kills to the Bearcats' 20 in the match.
Ella Brooks also led the way with five aces and
Cate Murphy and
Abby Marks each added a pair.
Abby Ruzanka had four blocks for the Grenadiers.
The Grenadiers conclude the homestand Saturday at noon vs Ohio Christian.
