INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team fell 90-76 to Marian on Saturday following a strong second half showing by the Knights.
IU Southeast fell behind early in the contest, trailing 17-10 after the first seven minutes. Marian took a 22-10 lead before
Jaden Johnson hit a three to cut the Marian lead to nine. Trailing 24-13, the Grenadiers used a 6-0 run to cut the lead to five at 24-19.
Marian took a 30-22 lead on a three-point play later in the half. The Grenadiers responded with a 7-0 run to cut the Marian lead to one at 30-29. IU Southeast took their first lead of the game at 34-33 following an
Ethan Haddaway layup.
The teams traded baskets back-and-forth for the next several minutes. It was a one-score game for nearly four minutes until a three by Marian gave the Knights a 46-42 lead going into the half.
Marian began the second half with back-to-back threes to extend their lead to 10 at 52-42. The Knights extended their advantage to 14 before a three by
Jocobi Hendricks cut the lead to 60-49. A 5-0 run by
J.J. Reed gave the Grenadiers life, cutting the Marian advantage to six at 60-54.
IU Southeast trailed by eight until the Grenadiers rattled off five straight points to make it a three-point game at 62-59. Marian was able to stretch their lead back to eight at 70-62. With a 70-64 lead, the Knights used a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 15 at 79-64. Marian maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the contest, and the Knights would go on to win 90-76.
Jocobi Hendricks led the Grenadiers with 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
J.J. Reed scored 12 points, and
Lane Lauderbaugh had 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
IU Southeast (1-1) travels to Campbellsville to take on the University of the Cumberlands and Campbellsville University (Ky.) next Friday and Saturday, respectively.
