HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team fell to Huntington 64-53 on Friday and 79-55 to Goshen on Saturday.
IU Southeast jumped out to an 8-0 lead against Huntington on Friday. Huntington responded with a 15-2 run to take a five-point lead. Huntington led 15-12 after the first quarter.
IU Southeast started the second quarter with four straight points to take a 16-15 lead. After a Huntington three, the Grenadiers used a 6-0 run to swing the lead back in their favor at 22-18. Trailing 24-21, Huntington used a 6-0 run of their own to take the lead back at 27-24. Huntington led 29-26 at the half.
With a 31-29 lead, Huntington hit back-to-back threes to take an eight-point lead. After a jumper by
Leah Miller cut the Grenadier deficit to six, Huntington used a 13-3 run to take a 50-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Huntington led by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter and went on to defeat IU Southeast 64-53.
Jesse Ledgerwood led the Grenadiers with 11 points and six rebounds.
Leah Miller also had 11 points, and
Katie Durbin added nine points and a team-high four steals.
On Saturday, IU Southeast used a three by
Karly Sweeney to tie the game at 5-5 early against Goshen. With a 9-7 lead, Goshen closed the first quarter on a 13-4 run to take a 22-11 lead.
A three by
Ella Koralia brought the Grenadiers back within eight, but Goshen responded with four straight points to extend their lead back to 12 at 26-14. With a 28-18 lead, Goshen used an 8-0 run to extend their advantage to 18 at 36-18. Goshen led 38-25 at halftime.
Goshen took a 17-point lead in the third quarter, but IU Southeast cut the lead to 11 after a 6-0 run. A
Karly Sweeney basket brought the Grenadiers back within single digits at 48-39. A three-point play by
Karly Sweeney cut the Goshen lead to six at 48-42, but back-to-back baskets by Goshen gave the Maple Leafs a 52-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Goshen took a 14-point lead to open the fourth, but a
Taylor Treat three cut the Grenadier deficit back to 11 at 58-47. The Maple Leafs responded with 10 straight points to extend their advantage to 68-47. Goshen would go on to defeat IU Southeast 79-55.
Karly Sweeney led IU Southeast with 16 points and three steals.
Linzie Wernert scored a career-high 14 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Taylor Treat added nine points off the bench.
IU Southeast (0-3) returns to action on Nov. 18 on the road against Miami-Middletown.
