MIDDLETOWN, Ohio – The IU Southeast women's basketball team defeated Miami-Middletown 80-52 on Saturday for their first win of the season.
IU Southeast started the game fast, taking a commanding lead early in the first. After the first quarter, the Grenadiers held a 21-6 lead.
The second quarter saw IU Southeast narrowly edge out Miami-Middletown 19-16, but the Grenadiers still went into halftime with a commanding 40-22 lead.
IU Southeast expanded their lead in the third quarter, outscoring Miami-Middletown 24-17. The Grenadiers also outscored the ThunderHawks 16-13 in the fourth quarter en route to an 80-52 victory.
Alex Maher was the leading scorer for IU Southeast with 14 points.
Taylor Treat was the other Grenadier in double figures, adding 10 points.
Makenna Wilson and
Karly Sweeney each had nine points, and
Leah Miller and
Grace Stapleton added eight points apiece.
Jesse Ledgerwood led IU Southeast with five assists.
IU Southeast shot 52.4% from the field and went 7-18 from behind the arc. The Grenadiers had 30 points off turnovers and 46 bench points in the victory.
IU Southeast (1-3) returns to action Nov. 28 on the road against Brescia.
