LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team used a strong first half to take down Simmons (Ky.) 79-58 on Tuesday.
IU Southeast jumped out in front 16-10 on a three by
Caleb Brown early in the first half. Another basket by
Caleb Brown gave the Grenadiers their first double-digit lead at 24-14.
A basket by Simmons made it 24-16, but IU Southeast responded with a 6-0 run to take a 30-16 lead. Simmons cut the lead to eight at 30-22, but the Grenadiers closed the first half on a 10-0 run to take a 40-22 lead into halftime.
IU Southeast took a 21-point lead early in the second half at 45-24. Simmons was able to cut the lead to 16, but IU Southeast used a 10-2 run to extend their advantage to 24 at 63-39. The Grenadiers led by as many as 30 in the second half and would go on to win 79-58.
Jocobi Hendricks led the Grenadiers with 21 points.
Lane Lauderbaugh had 19 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
J.J. Reed added 16 points and six rebounds.
IU Southeast shot 56% from the field and went 8-19 from behind the arc. The Grenadiers hit 15 of their 18 free throw attempts.
IU Southeast (3-4) returns to action on Nov. 28 for a road contest against Brescia.
