NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team defeated IU Columbus in five sets Friday before falling to IU Kokomo to conclude the regular season on Saturday.
On Friday,
Emilee Organ and
Ella Brooks combined to record 36 of the Grenadiers' 59 kills. Organ led the way with 19 and Brooks had 17 while
Haley Jaster returned from injury and added eight.
IU Southeast jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the first set vs the Crimson Pride and used a 4-0 run to put the set away and take a 15-7 lead.
Emilee Organ and
Abby Marks each had kills and
Alanna Wray had an ace to help spark the run.
IU Southeast closed the set on a 6-0 run. Four Crimson Pride errors and two Brooks kills ended the set.
In the second set, the Crimson Pride rallied to take a 17-15 lead. With the Crimson Pride leading 19-17, the Grenadiers responded by scoring eight of the final nine points of the period.
Emilee Organ had two kills and a block assist during the rally.
The Grenadiers dropped the third and fourth sets and the fifth set was tied at six before the Grenadiers took the lead for good.
Ella Brooks and
Emilee Organ each had kills and Kalie Bowie extended the Grenadier to 11-7 with a kill.
A kill by Organ followed by a bad set and a kill by Brooks won the match IU Southeast.
Cate Murphy had 40 assists for the Grenadiers and added three aces.
Emilee Organ led the Grenadiers with 20 digs.
Against IU Kokomo, the Grenadiers took a 10-9 first-set lead on a kill by Organ.
After an attack error and another Organ kill put IU Southeast in front 13-12, the Cougars scored five-straight points to move in front 17-13.
A kill by Organ cut the lead to 21-18 but the Cougars four of the final six points of the set to win it 25-20.
IU Southeast trailed 17-11 in the second set but a rallied to tie the set at 17.
Ella Brooks had three kills and Jaster added one during the run.
A kill by Jaster forced set point at 26-25, but IU Kokomo fought it off. Kills by Jaster and Murphy forced two more set points but IU Kokomo capitalized on a service error and followed that with a kill and won the set on an error.
IU Kokomo jumped out to 12-7 lead in the third set but IU Southeast came back to tie the set at 13,
Jessi Kramer and
Allison Daves each had kills and
Lexi Striegel had an ace to spark the comeback.
With the Cougars lead 18-17, they used a 6-0 run to force match point, but the Grenadiers staved off with three-straights points before Lexi Broyles won the match with a kill.
Emilee Organ had 13 kills,
Ella Brooks had 10 and
Haley Jaster had nine in the loss.
Cate Murphy had a match-high 25 assists in her final home match.
Ella Brooks had 18 digs, while seniors Organ and Striegel had 14 and 12, respectively in their final home matches.
Conference tournament information will be released later this weekend by the league.
