NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team fell to Oakland City 90-88 in double overtime on Saturday.
IU Southeast fell behind 15-11 to Oakland City early in the first half. The Mighty Oaks extended their lead to seven at 20-13. IU Southeast used a 5-0 run to cut the Oakland City lead to two at 20-18.
Oakland City took a 25-22 lead, but IU Southeast used a three by
Jaden Johnson to tie the game at 25-25. IU Southeast took a 30-25 lead on five straight points by
Jocobi Hendricks.
Trailing 35-32, Oakland City closed the half with four straight points to take a 36-35 halftime lead.
Oakland City took a 41-35 lead to begin the second half, but IU Southeast used a 12-0 run to take a 47-41 advantage. The Mighty Oaks answered with a 7-0 run of their own to take a one point lead at 48-47.
IU Southeast used a 7-2 run to take the lead back at 54-50. Leading 58-54,
Lane Lauderbaugh scored five straight points for the Grenadiers to extend their lead to nine at 63-54.
IU Southeast used a
J.J. Reed layup to take a 69-61 lead with 6:36 remaining. Oakland City used an 8-0 run to tie the game at 69-69 with 2:01 remaining.
A basket by
Jocobi Hendricks gave IU Southeast a 71-69 lead with just over one minute remaining. An Oakland City layup tied the game once more at 71-71 with 30 seconds left. IU Southeast had a shot for the win, but it was no good as the game went to overtime.
Oakland City scored the first four points of overtime to take a 75-71 lead.
J.J. Reed answered with a layup to cut the lead to two, but Oakland City used a layup and a free throw to extend their lead to five at 78-73 with two minutes left.
Jocobi Hendricks hit two free throws to cut the lead to three, and after an Oakland City miss,
Tevi Ali converted a three-point play to tie the game at 78-78 with 1:04 remaining.
A layup by Oakland City gave the Mighty Oaks a lead once more, but
Jocobi Hendricks responded with a basket of his own to tie the game at 80-80. The Mighty Oaks scored with 26 seconds left, but a
Jocobi Hendricks jumper with four seconds remaining tied the game at 82-82 and ultimately sent the game to a second overtime.
J.J. Reed opened the second overtime period with a layup to give IU Southeast an 84-82 lead. Oakland City answered, but
J.J. Reed hit another layup to give the Grenadiers the lead back. The Mighty Oaks used a basket of their own to tie the game at 86-86 with 2:54 left.
Oakland City hit a layup with 1:35 remaining to take a two-point lead at 88-86. Both teams were held scoreless until the eight-second mark when Oakland City hit two free throws to take a 90-86 lead.
Jocobi Hendricks came down and hit a layup and got fouled to cut the Grenadier deficit to two at 90-88. The free throw was missed, but IU Southeast was able to grab the loose ball. The Grenadiers were able to hoist a three at the buzzer, but it was no good as Oakland City secured a 90-88 victory.
Jocobi Hendricks led the Grenadiers with 29 points, four assists and four steals.
J.J. Reed scored 21 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Lane Lauderbaugh scored 13 points, and
Jaden Johnson added 10.
IU Southeast (4-5, 1-1 RSC) returns to action on Tuesday on the road against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
