TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team fell to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College 73-68 on Tuesday.
IU Southeast fell behind 14-5 early in the first half. SMWC extended their lead to double digits at 21-9. The Grenadiers responded with a 16-0 run to take a 25-21 advantage.
Leading 29-25, IU Southeast used a 6-1 run to take a nine-point lead at 35-26. SMWC hit back-to-back threes to cut the Grenadier lead to three.
Richard Lang hit a layup to give IU Southeast a 37-32 lead, but SMWC closed the half with back-to-back threes to take a 38-37 halftime advantage.
SMWC opened the second half with five straight points to take a 43-37 lead. An
Armani Carr three-point play closed the gap to three, but SMWC answered with another three to extend their lead back to six at 46-40.
Trailing 49-44, IU Southeast used a 7-0 run to swing the lead back in their favor at 51-49. SMWC answered with an 8-0 run to take a 57-51 advantage.
Leading 57-53, SMWC scored six straight points to extend their lead back to double digits at 65-55. IU Southeast used an 8-2 run to cut the SMWC lead to four at 67-63.
A dunk gave SMWC a 69-63 lead.
Jocobi Hendricks hit two free throws to make it 69-65, but SMWC hit two free throws of their own to extend their lead to 71-65. IU Southeast was able to cut the lead to five, but SMWC would go on to secure a 73-68 victory.
Jocobi Hendricks led the Grenadiers with 21 points and four assists.
Lane Lauderbaugh had 14 points off the bench, and
J.J. Reed added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Richard Lang scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds.
IU Southeast (4-6, 1-2 RSC) returns home to take on RSC foe IU Kokomo on Saturday.
