NEW ALBANY, Ind. –
Lane Lauderbaugh had 19 points and nine rebounds and
J.J. Reed had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead IU Southeast past IU Kokomo 74-65 on Saturday.
The Grenadiers held the Cougars scoreless for more than three minutes to start the contest as IU Southeast led 5-0 after a
Caleb Brown three-pointer and a layup by
Armani Carr.
But the Cougars responded and took their first lead of the game on a Ty Wills three-pointer which gave IU Kokomo a 18-16 lead.
J.J. Reed completed a three-point play to put the Grenadiers back in front and they would not trail for the remainder of the half.
Caleb Brown hit another three-pointer and
Ethan Haddaway scored to extend the Grenadier lead to 24-19 with 5:30 to play in the half.
Jaden Johnson hit a three-pointer to extend the IU Southeast lead to 31-28 which is the lead they would take to halftime.
IU Kokomo scored the first four points of the second half to take a 32-31 lead but the Grenadiers began to take advantage at the free-throw line and took the lead back.
IU Southeast led 44-40 with 13:39 to play but pulled away on a 21-9 run.
Reed hit consecutive three-pointers and a three-point play by
Jocobi Hendricks pushed the lead back to 10 at 57-47 after the Cougars had chipped away.
Hendricks also recorded his 1,000
th career point during that play, becoming the 36
th IU Southeast men's basketball player to score 1,000 points.
Nolan Davenport sealed the game when he connected on a three-point field goal and then got a steal and a layup to extend the Grenadier lead to 65-49 with 8:23 to play.

Lane Lauderbaugh made it 74-62 after the Cougars had cut the lead to 10 with two minutes to play.
IU Southeast only hit four three-point field goals in the second half but they were timely to keep the lead at a comfortable distance.
Though the rebounding battle was close, IU Southeast outscored IU Kokomo 14-7 in second-chance points and scored 14 points off of turnovers.
The Grenadiers host University of the Cumberlands Saturday at 1 p.m.
