NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team defeated conference foe IU Kokomo 77-67 on Saturday.
IU Southeast opened the scoring with a three by
Leah Miller. With the teams tied at 5-5, the Grenadiers used a 6-0 run to take an 11-5 lead.
IU Kokomo cut the lead to three at 13-10, but a
Karly Sweeney three gave the Grenadiers a six-point edge at 16-10. IU Southeast held an 18-12 lead after the first quarter.
Back-to-back threes by
Jesse Ledgerwood to open the second quarter gave IU Southeast a 24-12 lead. IU Kokomo responded with a 13-0 run to swing the lead in their favor at 25-24. IU Kokomo went into halftime with a 31-28 lead.
The Cougars led off the third quarter with a three to take a 34-28 lead. Back-to-back layups by IU Southeast cut the IU Kokomo lead to two, but IU Kokomo answered to extend their lead back to six at 38-32.
Trailing 40-35, IU Southeast used an 8-0 run to take the lead back at 43-40. IU Southeast used a
Leah Miller three to take a 51-46 lead headed into the fourth quarter.
IU Southeast opened the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 59-46 advantage. The Grenadiers extended their lead to 15 at 63-48. IU Southeast's lead never fell below eight for the rest of the game as the Grenadiers secured a 77-67 victory.
Leah Miller led the Grenadiers with 26 points, five assists, and six steals.
Karly Sweeney had 15 points and a grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Linzie Wernert had 11 points and five rebounds, and
Jesse Ledgerwood scored nine points off the bench.
IU Southeast (3-5, 2-2 RSC) travels to Lindsey Wilson on Thursday.
