Box Score NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball team used hot shooting to defeat Oakland City 101-78 on Saturday, handing the Mighty Oaks their second RSC loss of the season.
The game started at a frantic pace as Oakland City led 8-6 after 90 seconds of play. Trailing 10-8, IU Southeast hit a three on three straight possessions to take a 17-11 advantage.
Oakland City cut the lead to one at 19-18, but a jumper by Emmy Ralph extended the lead to 21-18. The Mighty Oaks cut it to five at 25-20 but a 5-0 run by Leah Miller extended the IU Southeast lead to 30-20. The Grenadiers led 30-22 after the first quarter.
IU Southeast opened the second quarter with 10 straight points to force an Oakland City timeout. After a 5-0 run by the Mighty Oaks, a Leah Miller jumper gave the Grenadiers a 42-27 lead.
Back-to-back baskets by Jesse Ledgerwood and Alex Maher extended the IU Southeast lead to 16 at 49-33. The Grenadiers took a 49-37 lead into halftime.
The Grenadiers hit a three on each of their first two possessions of the third quarter, extending their lead to 55-40. A three-point play by Oakland City later in the quarter cut the Grenadier lead to 10 at 57-47.
IU Southeast, leading 63-51, scored 13 straight points to extend their lead to 25 at 76-51. The Grenadiers led 78-54 after three quarters.
The Grenadiers led by as many as 30 in the fourth quarter. IU Southeast would go on to defeat the Mighty Oaks 101-78.
A community of Grenadiers contributed to the win as every IU Southeast player scored in the contest. Emmy Ralph led all scorers with 24 points and dished out a team-high six assists. Leah Miller scored 20 and Lauren Lamdbin added 13 points. Sierra Graham scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Alex Maher scored nine points while pulling down 12 rebounds.
IU Southeast had 20 assists on 40 baskets in the contest. The Grenadiers shot 55.6 percent from the field and went 12-28 from behind the arc.
IU Southeast moves to 15-8 overall and 8-6 in conference play. The Grenadiers travel to St. Mary-of-the-Woods on Tuesday.
