NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team started strong and swept IU Columbus 25-11, 25-16, 27-25 in the first matchup between the two programs.
IU Southeast led 8-6 before a 5-0 run put the set out of reach. The kills by
Haley Jaster and
Ella Brooks and a ace by Briana Bucher extended the lead to 16-7.
The Grenadiers closed the set by scoring the final four points,
Emilee Organ had a kill and
Alanna Wray added an ace followed by two Crimson Pride errors to take the set.
In the second, IU Southeast led 13-10 but a kill by Brooks followed by an ace by
Cate Murphy and an attack error pushed the lead to 16-10.
A kill by Brooks and pair by Jaster extended the lead to 20-13, and Jaster won the set with a kill at 25-16.
IU Southeast jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set but IUPUC used a 7-2 run to the set at 13.
A 4-0 run by the Crimson Pride gave them a 19-16 lead and forced an IU Southeast timeout.
IU Southeast responded by going on a 7-0 run sparked by Brooks's four aces to take a 23-19 lead.
The Crimson Pride answered to tie the set at 23, and then staved off match point three times, before a kill by Organ and a kill by Brooks won the match.
Ella Brooks had 13 kills and
Emilee Organ and
Haley Jaster each had 10 in the win.
Cate Murphy had 36 assists and three aces.
The Grenadiers travel to Alice Lloyd and Shawnee State this weekend.
