PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The IU Southeast volleyball team swept Alice Lloyd on Friday before falling in five sets to Shawnee State to cap off a weekend road trip.
On Friday, the Grenadiers shut down the Alice Lloyd offense. IU Southeast held the Eagles to a .057 attack percentage and Alice Lloyd had no more than six kills in any set.
With IU Southeast leading 11-9 in the opening set, the Grenadiers roared away with a 9-0 run.
Allison Daves had four kills during that stretch for IU Southeast.
In the second set, a kill by
Cate Murphy extended the IU Southeast lead to 14-9. With IU Southeast leading 18-14, the Grenadiers scored five-straight points to take a commanding lead.
Ella Brooks and
Emilee Organ each had kills and
Haley Jaster had an ace.
Kills by Organ and Daves won the set for IU Southeast.
In the third set, IU Southeeast led 14-8 but a 4-0 Alice Lloyd run got the Eagles back in the set. A pair of kills by
Jessi Kramer gave the Grenadiers some breathing room and a 4-0 IU Southeast run won the match.
A kill by
Reagan Ealy followed by three aces by
Alanna Wray ended the match.
Emilee Organ had 14 kills and had an attack percentage of .571 in the match.
Allison Daves had 11 kills and
Haley Jaster and
Jessi Kramer each added six.
Cate Murphy had 39 assists and
Alanna Wray led IU Southeast with three aces.
On Saturday, IU Southeast dropped the first two sets before rallying to win the next two and force a fifth set.
IU Southeast trailed 9-7 in the third set but a 6-1 run put them in front.
Emilee Organ had a pair of kills to spark the rally.
A service error followed by an attack error and ace by Wray extended the Grenadier lead to 18-14.
Aces by Brooks and Ealy and a kill by Organ forced set point. A block by Brooks and
Kali Bowie won the set for IU Southeast.
In the fourth set, IU Southeast trailed 17-13 but slowly chipped away at the deficit.
A kill by Organ and two attack errors tied the set at 18.
Allison Daves forced set point and after a Shawnee State kill, won the set for IU Southeast with another kill to force a deciding fifth set.
Shawnee State scored 10 of the first 15 points to take a large lead in the fifth. The Grenadiers cut the lead to three multiple times but could not get closer.
Ella Brooks had 19 kills to lead IU Southeast and
Emilee Organ had 13 in the loss.
Cate Murphy had 47 assists and
Lexi Striegel had 17 digs to lead the Grenadiers.
IU Southeast hosts Oakland City Tuesday at 7 p.m.
