NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team roared out to a quick first-set win but dropped the next three sets to fall to Georgetown College 14-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-21 on Wednesday.
IU Southeast (2-4) led 7-1 to begin the match as
Ella Brooks,
Jessi Kramer,
Emilee Organ and
Haley Jaster each recorded kills during the run and
Lexi Striegel had an ace.
A kill by Jaster and an ace by Organ forced a Georgetown timeout but the Grenadiers continued to pull away, leading 20-10 after another Jaster kill.
Three-straight errors and then a kill by Brooks forced set point, and a service error won the first set for IU Southeast.
In the second set, neither team could gain a comfortable lead. The Grenadiers took a 21-20 lead after scoring three-straight points including an ace from Brooks and a kill by Organ.
After the Tigers tied the set at 21, consecutive errors put the Grenadiers in front 23-21. A ace from Striegel forced set point but Georgetown closed the period on a 5-0 run to tie the match.
IU Southeast committed three attack errors in the final five points.
In the third set,
Brianna Bucher recorded an ace to give IU Southeast a 19-18 lead but the set was tied at 21 after a kill by
Jessi Kramer.
Two kills and an attack error sent set point to Georgetown and after an
Emilee Organ kill prolonged the set, an attack error won it for Georgetown.
In the fourth set, IU Southeast led 4-1 but the Tigers scored six of the next eight points to take the lead.
A 4-0 run by the Tigers extended their lead to 15-13 but the Grenadiers battled back to cut the lead to 21-20 on a kill by Jaster.
Two kills and an error forced match point for the Tigers and a kill by Makena Walker won the match.
Haley Jaster had 13 kills to lead IU Southeast.
Ella Brooks had 11 and
Emilee Organ added seven.
Lexi Striegel,
Emilee Organ and
Ella Brooks each had a pair of aces and Jaster had three blocks in the loss.
Abby Marks had 17 assists while
Cate Murphy added 15.
The teams combined for 23 service errors in the match, including 15 from Georgetown.
IU Southeast travels to Indiana Tech for a tournament on Friday and Saturday.
