NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team fell to IU East 75-73 in overtime on Tuesday.
IU East jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first quarter before IU Southeast used four straight points by
Jesse Ledgerwood to tie the game at 6-6. IU East took a 10-6 lead, but a 5-0 run by the Grenadiers gave IU Southeast an 11-10 edge.
The teams traded the lead back and forth, but it was IU Southeast that held a 19-17 lead after the first quarter.
IU Southeast extended their lead to five at 23-18 following a
Linzie Wernert jumper. Two free throws later in the second quarter gave IU Southeast a 27-21 advantage.
Lexi Starr connected on a three to give IU Southeast a 30-23 edge, but IU East answered with four straight points to cut the deficit to three at 30-27. Trailing 34-30, IU East hit back-to-back threes to take a 36-34 lead into the half.
IU East took a 38-34 lead to begin the second half, but IU Southeast responded with four points in a row to tie the game at 38-38. The teams were tied at 43-43 five minutes into the third quarter.
IU Southeast used a 6-0 run to take a 49-43 lead. The Grenadiers extended their lead to eight at 53-45 on a
Leah Miller layup. IU Southeast led 57-48 after three quarters.
With IU Southeast leading 59-50 in the fourth quarter, IU East used an 11-0 run to take a 61-59 lead with 1:59 remaining. A
Leah Miller layup tied the game at 61-61 with a minute remaining.
Leah Miller connected on a jumper with nine seconds remaining to give IU Southeast a 63-61 edge, but IU East hit a layup on the ensuing possession to send the game to overtime with the score tied 63-63.
IU East jumped out to a 66-63 lead to begin overtime.
Linzie Wernert connected on two free throws to cut the Grenadier deficit to one at 66-65. IU East hit one of two free throws to take a 67-65 lead with 2:58 left.
Taylor Treat was fouled on a three-point attempt and connected on two of three free throws to tie the game at 67-67 with 1:06 remaining.
IU East took the lead back at 69-67 with 39 seconds left. IU Southeast had a shot to tie, but IU East secured the rebound and connected on a pair of free throws to take a two-possession lead at 71-67.
Lexi Starr hit a layup for IU Southeast to cut the IU East lead to two at 71-69, but IU East hit a pair of free throws once more to take a 73-69 lead.
Lexi Starr hit a free throw to make it 73-70, but another pair of free throws extended the IU East lead to 75-70.
Taylor Treat hit a three at the buzzer, but it was not enough as IU East secured a 75-73 victory.
Jesse Ledgerwood led IU Southeast with 15 points.
Linzie Wernert had 14 points and eight rebounds.
Leah Miller had 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Lexi Starr had a career-high nine points and two steals, and
Taylor Treat added eight points and four rebounds.
IU Southeast (8-11, 5-7 RSC) returns to action next Tuesday at home against Brescia.
