NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team fell to Shawnee State 65-53 on Thursday.
IU Southeast fell behind 10-0 to begin the game. IU Southeast answered with a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 10-5. Shawnee State extended their lead to 15 at 22-7 and led 25-12 after the first quarter.
IU Southeast cut the Shawnee State lead to seven at 27-20 on a
Jesse Ledgerwood three. Shawnee State extended their lead back to double digits at 32-20. After a
Karly Sweeney three made it 32-23, Shawnee State closed the half on a 6-0 run to go into halftime with a 38-23 lead.
The Grenadiers opened the second half on a 5-0 run to cut their deficit to 10 at 38-28. Shawnee State answered with an 8-0 run to extend their advantage to 18 at 46-28. Shawnee State led 46-33 at the end of the third quarter.
Trailing 48-33, IU Southeast used an 8-0 run to cut the Shawnee State advantage to 48-41. After two Shawnee State free throws, the Grenadiers went on a 7-0 run to narrow the deficit to two at 50-48. Shawnee State responded with a 9-0 run to extend their lead back to double digits at 59-48. Shawnee State would go on to win 65-53.
Karly Sweeney led IU Southeast with 18 points and finished with five steals.
Leah Miller had 12 points, four steals, and three assists.
Jesse Ledgerwood had 10 points and a team-high six steals.
IU Southeast returns to action on Saturday against Point Park.
