NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team swept Brescia (25-23, 25-23, 25-19) in a conference matchup on Tuesday.
IU Southeast took a 9-1 lead early in the first set. Brescia used a 9-3 run to cut the Grenadier lead to 12-10. A 5-1 run gave IU Southeast a 17-11 edge. Brescia answered with a 5-1 run of their own to cut the lead to 18-16.
IU Southeast used a 5-2 run to take a 23-18 advantage, but a 4-0 Brescia run cut the Bearcat deficit to one at 23-22. IU Southeast would score two of the final three points to take the set 25-23.
Another quick start by IU Southeast saw the Grenadiers take a 9-2 lead. IU Southeast maintained their advantage as the Grenadiers saw leads of 13-4 and 17-9. Trailing 20-14, Brescia used a 6-1 run to cut the lead to one at 21-20. The teams traded points until IU Southeast led 24-23. The Grenadiers then used a
Haley Jaster kill to take the second set 25-23.
The Grenadiers held an 8-2 lead early in the third set. Brescia narrowed the Grenadier lead to three at 11-8, but IU Southeast used a 5-1 run to take a 16-9 edge. IU Southeast extended their lead to eight at 22-14, but a 4-0 Brescia run made it 22-18. The Grenadiers would go on to take the third set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
Haley Jaster led IU Southeast with 12 kills and 3.0 blocks.
Carly Mason had a team-high 22 assists and five aces.
Ella Davidson and
Ella Brooks each had 12 digs to lead the Grenadiers.
IU Southeast returns to action on Friday for a home contest against IU Columbus.
