GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The IU Southeast volleyball team defeated Georgetown College in four sets (25-13, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17) on Tuesday.
IU Southeast jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first set. After a Georgetown point, IU Southeast went on a 9-2 run to extend their lead to 17-5. IU Southeast led by as many as 13 points as the Grenadiers took the first set 25-13.
The second set began evenly matched as the teams were tied 8-8 early on. Georgetown took a 10-9 lead, but a 4-0 run gave IU Southeast a 13-10 edge. Georgetown came back to tie the set at 14-14 and 15-15, but each time the Grenadiers answered to take the lead back.
With IU Southeast ahead 19-18, Georgetown used a quick 3-0 run to take a 21-19 lead. IU Southeast tied the set at 21-21 and 22-22, but Georgetown took the second set 25-23.
IU Southeast took a quick 5-2 edge to open the third set. Georgetown fought back to tie the set at 10-10. The Grenadiers led 13-12, but Georgetown scored three-straight points to make it 15-13 Tigers. With Georgetown leading 17-15, IU Southeast answered with a trio of points to swing the lead back in their favor at 18-17.
Georgetown took a 19-18 lead, but a 5-0 run by IU Southeast gave the Grenadiers a 23-19 edge. The Tigers cut the Grenadier lead to one at 24-23, but IU Southeast would take the third set 25-23.
The fourth set saw Georgetown take a 5-0 lead. With the Tigers up 7-5, IU Southeast used a 5-0 run to take a 10-7 advantage. Georgetown was able to cut the lead to one at 11-10, but back-to-back points but IU Southeast made it 13-10.
IU Southeast took a four-point lead at 18-14. Georgetown cut the lead to three at 20-17, but IU Southeast closed on a 5-0 run to take the fourth set 25-17 and the match 3-1.
"We had a great start and a good finish," IU Southeast head coach
Eric Brian said. "We need to be able to stay locked in for a whole match. But this was a much-needed road win."
Haley Jaster led IU Southeast with 15 kills and 4.0 blocks.
Ella Brooks had 13 kills and 12 digs.
Ella Davidson also had 12 digs as well as a trio of aces.
Kacy Hornish had a team-high 22 assists and three aces.
IU Southeast returns to action on Friday for a home match against nationally ranked IU Kokomo.
