OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team defeated Oakland City 3-2 (21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 15-10), the fifth-straight Grenadier match to go five sets.
Oakland City led 9-6 early in the first set. IU Southeast answered with a 5-1 run to take an 11-10 lead. Oakland City took a 13-12 edge, but IU Southeast swung the lead back in their favor at 15-14. Not to be outdone, Oakland City answered with a 5-1 run to take a 19-16 lead. With the Mighty Oaks ahead 21-17, the teams traded points until Oakland City took the first set 25-21.
A 6-1 run early in the second set gave IU Southeast a 6-3 lead. The teams then traded 3-0 runs, and IU Southeast held a 9-6 lead. A 5-1 Oakland City run gave the Mighty Oaks an 11-10 edge. A flurry of points saw the teams come out deadlocked at 15-15. The Mighty Oaks used a 4-0 run to take a 19-15 lead, forcing an IU Southeast timeout.
IU Southeast fought back to tie the set at 21-21. Oakland City took a 23-22 lead, but IU Southeast answered with a 3-0 run to take the second set 25-23.
The teams were evenly matched to open the third set, as IU Southeast held a narrow 10-9 lead. The Grenadiers led 13-10, but Oakland City used a 5-1 run to take their first lead of the set at 15-14. With the teams tied at 18-18, Oakland City rattled off four straight points to take a 22-18 advantage. IU Southeast cut the lead to one at 23-22, but Oakland City would take the third set 25-22.
With Oakland City up 8-6 in the fourth set, a 5-1 run by IU Southeast gave the Grenadiers an 11-9 edge. Oakland City tied the set at 14-14, but a 5-2 IU Southeast run made it 19-16 Grenadiers. Oakland City tied the set at 20-20, but an IU Southeast point made it 21-20. The set was tied at both 21-21 and 22-22, but IU Southeast would pull away to take the fourth set 25-23.
The fifth set saw the teams tied at 4-4. IU Southeast used a 6-0 run to take a 10-4 lead. Oakland City was able to cut the lead to four on a couple occasions, but it was IU Southeast who took the fifth set 15-10 and the match 3-2.

Eric Brian said. "Another tough road win. I've said all year I love this team and their fight. We've had quite a few bumps in the road, but this group can grind. It'll cause a heart attack, but it's also exciting to see the triumph."
Haley Jaster led IU Southeast with 17 kills and 3.0 blocks.
Ella Brooks shared the team lead with 17 kills and recorded a team-high 28 digs.
Carly Mason had 33 assists, and
Kacy Hornish added 23.
Ella Davidson had 19 digs, and
Jessi Kramer had 18.
IU Southeast finishes the regular season with an 11-17 overall record and a 9-7 record in conference play. The Grenadiers will return to action on Tuesday for the First Round of the RSC Volleyball Tournament. Seeds and matchups will be announced following the conclusion of Saturday's matches.
