OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team defeated Oakland City 70-59 on Saturday.
Oakland City used an early 9-0 run to jump out to a 14-5 lead five minutes into the game. IU Southeast answered with three straight baskets to make it 14-11.
Trailing 16-11, IU Southeast used a 7-0 run to take an 18-16 lead. Oakland City responded with a 7-0 run of their own to swing the lead back in their favor at 23-18.
Oakland City hit two free throws to take a 32-26 lead with five minutes remaining in the half. IU Southeast took a 35-32 lead following a 9-0 run. The Grenadiers led 39-36 at the half.
IU Southeast opened the second half on a 9-1 run to extend their lead to double digits at 48-37. Oakland City cut the lead to seven at 48-41, but
Jocobi Hendricks connected on a jumper to extend the Grenadier lead back to nine.
A dunk by
Richard Lang gave IU Southeast a double-digit lead once more at 54-43.
Xavier Price connected on a jumper to give the Grenadiers a 56-44 lead.
Oakland City cut the lead to six at 56-50, but
Jocobi Hendricks connected on a pair of free throws to give IU Southeast a 58-50 edge. Hendricks followed with a jumper to give IU Southeast a 60-50 lead.
Oakland City connected on a layup to cut the Grenadier advantage to seven at 62-55 with 4:12 remaining. Two free throws by Oakland City narrowed the deficit to five at 62-57 with 3:09 left.
A
Jocobi Hendricks jumper gave IU Southeast a 64-57 lead with 2:10 remaining. IU Southeast used a
J.J. Reed free throw and a
Lane Lauderbaugh layup to take a 67-57 lead with 1:15 left in the contest.
Oakland City was able to cut the Grenadier lead to eight, but the Mighty Oaks would not pull any closer as IU Southeast secured a 70-59 victory.
Jocobi Hendricks led IU Southeast with 30 points.
J.J. Reed had 14 points and tied
Richard Lang for the team lead with seven rebounds.
Lane Lauderbaugh had 10 points and six rebounds.
IU Southeast (11-11, 7-7 RSC) returns to action on Tuesday for a home contest against St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
