NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team overcame a 21-point deficit to take a late lead but a three-point play by Cobie Barnes won the game for St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
 
A cold start for the Grenadiers from the field put them in a double-digit deficit early as the Pomeroys opened the game on a 25-9 run.
 
Two free-throws extended the lead to 36-15 with 4:18 to play in the first half.
 
IU Southeast trailed 42-26 at halftime.
 
IU Southeast shot 32 percent from the field in the first half and were 0-of-7 from three-point range though multiple field goals rimmed out.
 
In the second half, Caleb Brown hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to 49-38 five minutes into the second half.
 
IU Southeast used a 16-4 run to cut the lead to one on a J.J. Reed layup.
 
A three-pointer by Greg Jenkins extended the lead back to six but a 9-2 run by IU Southeast put them in front when Jocobi Hendricks connected on a three with six minutes to play.
 
Consecutive jumpers by the Pomeroys put them back up by three but Xavier Price tied the game with a three.
 
J.J. Reed put the Grenadiers in front on a putback but a three-point play by Shon Tupuola swung the lead back to the Pomeroys.
 
After a Jaden Johnson tip-in, Tupuola scored on a layup.
 
Xavier Price hit another three-pointer with 10 seconds to play to send IU Southeast back in front but Cobie Barnes was fouled as he hit a jump shot with 2.4 seconds left. He hit the free throw and the last-second prayer by J.J. Reed missed.
 
Jocobi Hendricks had 19 of his 22 points in the second half. J.J. Reed had 19 points and seven rebounds while Xavier Price added 16 points and Ethan Haddway had 14 points and seven rebounds.
 
IU Southeast travels to IU Kokomo on Saturday at 3 p.m.
