RICHMOND, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team never trailed en route to a 77-66 win over IU East on Tuesday.
IU Southeast jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the first quarter after a 5-0 run by
Lexi Starr. IU East made it 7-6, but the Grenadiers used another 5-0 run to take a 13-6 edge.
IU East cut the lead to three at 17-14, but a layup by
Katie Durbin and a three by
Karly Sweeney gave IU Southeast a 22-14 lead at the end of the first.
IU East hit a layup to make it 22-16, but a
Grace Stapleton three gave IU Southeast a 25-16 advantage. IU Southeast extended their lead to double digits with two
Karly Sweeney free throws. A
Taylor Treat three gave the Grenadiers a 30-16 advantage.
Katie Durbin connected on a layup to give IU Southeast a 16-point lead at 32-16. IU East used a 6-0 run to cut the Grenadier lead to 10 at 32-22.
IU Southeast used a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 17 at 39-22.
Jesse Ledgerwood connected on a three to give IU Southeast a 44-24 advantage at the half.
Jesse Ledgerwood opened the second half with a three to extend the IU Southeast lead to 23 at 47-24. A
Grace Stapleton three later in the quarter gave IU Southeast a 20-point lead once more at 52-32.
With a 52-35 lead, IU Southeast scored eight straight points to take a 60-36 lead. A layup by
Makenna Wilson gave the Grenadiers their largest lead at 62-37.
IU East used an 8-0 run to cut the Grenadier lead to 17 at 62-45. IU Southeast led 64-47 at the end of the third.
IU East opened the fourth quarter with five straight points to cut the IU Southeast advantage to 12 at 64-52. IU Southeast used back-to-back baskets by
Leah Miller to extend their lead back to 16 at 68-52.
IU East made it a 10-point game at 70-60 with 3:28 remaining. A
Linzie Wernert layup made it 72-60 IU Southeast.
With 1:48 remaining, IU East hit a layup to make it 72-62 and followed that with a three to make it 72-65.
Leah Miller used a layup and a free throw to give IU Southeast a 75-65 lead. The Grenadiers would go on to win 77-66.
Leah Miller registered a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists.
Makenna Wilson scored 12 points, and
Jesse Ledgerwood scored 11.
Linzie Wernert scored nine points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
IU Southeast returns to action on Thursday for a home contest against Midway.
