MARION, Ind. - IU Southeast jumped out to a 7-0 lead and hung on for a 7-6 win over No. 14 Indiana Wesleyan on Tuesday.
The Grenadiers opened the scoring in the top of the first when
Mason White homered, his seventh of the year.
Brendan Koester started the game for IU Southeast and worked three no-hit innings, allowing one walk. He got out of bases-loaded jam in the first with a popout and then stranded two runners in the second after a hit batter and a walk. In the third, he retired the side in order.
IU Southeast scored three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
In the fifth,
Grant Shepherd reached on an error and scored on a single by
Slater Schield. After three-straight passed balls, Schield came around to score.
Mason White drew a walk and moved to second on one of the previous passed balls. He scored on a single by
Luke Powell.
In the sixth,
Max Flock walked and courtesy runner
Mikaii Stoner moved to third on a
Logan Murphy double. Stoner scored on a passed ball and pinch runner
Brayden Hazelwood scored on a single by
Colin Long.
Indiana Wesleyan scored three runs in the sixth and three more in the eighth but
Connor Sims struck out the final four batters of the game to secure the win and a save.
Colin Long had three hits, scored a run and had a RBI.
Slater Schield and
Luke Powell each had two hits and a RBI.
IU Southeast opens conference play on Friday when they host Shawnee State at 4 p.m.
