NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Marian on Monday.
Marian scored a run in the top of the first in game one on back-to-back errors by the Grenadiers. The Knights followed with six runs in the top of the second, all unearned.
Marian scored one run in the top of the fourth and three runs in the top of the fifth to extend their lead. The Knights would go on to win 11-0 in five innings.
Autumn Oehlstrom had the only hit for the Grenadiers in game one.
IU Southeast struck first in game two.
McKenzie Walters opened the first with a single and a stolen base. After an
Autumn Oehlstrom single,
Erin Templeman doubled to drive in Walters and
give the Grenadiers a 1-0 lead.
Marian answered in the top of the second. After the Knights loaded the bases with one out, a walk, a groundout and a single gave Marian a 4-1 edge.
Josie Lemmons led off the bottom of the third with a single that ricocheted off the pitcher. After Lemmons stole second,
Autumn Oehlstrom singled and advanced to second to put runners on second and third with no outs.
Erin Templeman followed with a two-RBI double to make it 4-3.
Marian scored two runs in the top of the fourth to make it 6-3 Knights. IU Southeast had runners in scoring position in both the fourth and fifth, but they could not capitalize.
A bases-clearing double with no outs in the top of the sixth made it 9-3 Marian. A sacrifice fly gave the Knights a 10-3 lead.
Autumn Oehlstrom delivered an RBI single in the sixth to make it 10-4, but Marian would score another run in the seventh en route to an 11-4 win.
Autumn Oehlstrom and
Erin Templeman each had three hits in game two.
McKenzie Walters,
Josie Lemmons and
Lillian Mackey each had two hits apiece.
IU Southeast returns to action on Friday for a home doubleheader against Taylor.
