NEW ALBANY, Ind. –
Jocobi Hendricks hit two free-throws with under three seconds to play as IU Southeast defeated Brescia 90-89 on Tuesday.
IU Southeast trailed 33-23 with 7:30 to play in the first half but cut the deficit to five after
Xavier Price made two free throws and Hendricks connected on a three.
A jumper by Hendricks cut the lead to 35-32 with 4:57 to play in the half but the Bearcats answered with an 8-2 run to take a nine-point lead.
A dunk by
Richard Lang cut the lead to two after the Grenadiers got back in the game on a 9-2 run. They trailed 49-45 at halftime.
Jocobi Hendricks (19) and
Lane Lauderbaugh (14) combined to score 33 of the 45 IU Southeast points in the first half.
Cory Gardner hit a three-pointer to push the Brescia lead to 56-49 three minutes in the second half but the Grenadiers used a 12-3 run to take a 61-59 lead.
A steal b
J.J. Reed led to a dunk by Laurderbaugh to extend the Grenadier lead to 72-65 with 8:24 to play.
The Grenadiers had a comfortable lead after consecutive three-pointers by Price and
Armani Carr put IU Southeast in front 84-75 with four minutes to play but a furious Bearcat rally put the game in doubt.
A layup by Cory Gardner cut the lead to three but Lauderbaugh answered with a layup of his own as IU Southeast led 88-83 with 1:57 to play.
Taeron Hogg connected on two free throws and a tip in by Gardner cut the lead to one with a minute to go.
After the Grenadiers did not score on the ensuing possession, John Saenz scored on a layup with seconds to play.
Jocobi Hendricks drove down the lane and was fouled with 2.4 seconds to play and hit both free throws.
J.J. Reed got a steal but traveled with 0.8 second left giving Brescia one last chance, but the heave missed.
Jocobi Hendricks finished with 30 points and
Lane Lauderbaugh had 29 points and 12 rebounds in the win. The duo combined to hit 21-of-22 free-throws in the contest.
IU Southeast travels to Oakland City Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
