NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team dropped its home opening doubleheader 11-4 and 7-4 to Campbellsville on Thursday.
In game one, the Grenadiers took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning when
Hazel Martinez doubled to left to drive in
Ethan Burdette who had reached on a double of his own.
Campbellsville took the lead with two runs in the fourth. An infield single by Trent Buchanan scored Henry Wright and Jonah Bachiu drove in Kale Seitz with a sacrifice fly.
The score remained the same until the sixth when the Tigers pieced together a two-out rally that was capped off on a three-run home run by Amayas Lamar.
Mason White responded with a solo home run to right in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 5-2.
The Tigers pulled away with a pair of runs in the sixth and four in the seventh.
Hazel Martinez hit a two-run home run to right in the eighth for IU Southeast for his first home run as a Grenadier.
Ethan Burdette had three hits and scored a run while Martinez went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI in the loss.
In game two, Campbellsville struck for four runs in the top of the first.
IU Southeast cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third when White hit a two-run home run to right-center.
The Grenadiers got within a run in the fourth when Burdette singled to drive in
Alex Yurt.
The Tigers loaded the bases in the fifth after a two walks, a RBI single and an error.
After starter
Tyler Yotkewich struck out a pair, the two-out hits came through again as Seitz singled to left to drive in a pair.
Luke Powell tripled to right and drove in
Max Flock in the bottom of the inning for the Grenadiers.
Ethan Burdette had two hits and
Mason White drove in a pair in the loss.
Luke Powell worked an inning and struck out three in relief and
Brendan Koester worked two scoreless innings and struck out four.
IU Southeast travels to Northwestern Ohio Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
