IU Southeast Sweeps Brescia Doubleheader to Extend Winning Streak to Six Games

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The IU Southeast softball team swept Brescia in a doubleheader on Tuesday, winning game one 17-5 and game two 6-0.
 
IU Southeast scored first in game one. In the top of the first, McKenzie Walters walked and advanced to second on a Josie Lemmons single. Autumn Oehlstrom followed with a two-RBI double to give IU Southeast a 2-0 lead. Oehlstrom advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout by Brynlea Bennett, making it 3-0 Grenadiers.
 
A McKenzie Walters single in the top of the fourth scored Kendall Brown to make it 4-0 IU Southeast. Josie Lemmons tripled home Walters and would come around to score on an error to make it 6-0. Back-to-back hits by Autumn Oehlstrom and Erin Templeman gave IU Southeast a 7-0 lead.
 
Singles by Issy Wright and Madison Wathen in the top of the sixth gave IU Southeast runners on first and third with one out. After pinch runner Josie Lemmons stole second, Autumn Oehlstrom singled to score Walters and Lemmons to give IU Southeast a 9-0 lead.
 
Two more singles loaded the bases for IU Southeast. Brynlea Bennett followed with an RBI single to make it 10-0 IU Southeast. Cassie Walls scored on a wild pitch to make it 11-0.
 
Brescia scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 11-5 IU Southeast.
 
With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, Maddy Olander singled to drive in two runs to give IU Southeast a 13-5 lead. Cassie Walls followed with a two-RBI single to make it 15-5. Cassi Roman and Chloee Shewmaker drew bases loaded walks to make it 17-5 IU Southeast.
 
IU Southeast would go on to win 17-5.
 
Madison Wathen got the start and the win for IU Southeast, allowing just one hit in five scoreless innings of work while striking out seven. Jaylen Robinson, Savannah Gaither, and Emma Davis combined to finish the game in the circle.
 
McKenzie Walters and Autumn Oehlstrom each had three hits for IU Southeast. Oehlstrom led the Grenadiers with four RBIs.
 
Game two remained scoreless until the top of the fourth. Macie Zink used a bunt single and a stolen base to give IU Southeast a runner at second. Kaitlyn Leister followed with an RBI single to give the Grenadiers a 1-0 lead. After Leister stole second, Maci Warner doubled to give IU Southeast a 2-0 lead. An Issy Wright RBI single made it 3-0.
 
After Autumn Oehlstrom singled in the top of the fifth, pinch runner Quinlynn Cunningham stole second to give IU Southeast a runner in scoring position. Macie Zink followed with an RBI double to give IU Southeast a 4-0 lead.
 
After a Chloee Shewmaker walk and a Maci Warner double, a throwing error on a bunt by Issy Wright allowed two runs to score and give IU Southeast a 6-0 edge.
 
IU Southeast would go on to win game two 6-0.
 
Maci Warner threw the first 4.2 innings for IU Southeast, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out four. Hallie Foley followed with a perfect 2.1 innings.
 
Autumn Oehlstrom, Macie Zink, and Maci Warner each had two hits for IU Southeast. Zink stole two bases in the win. Brynlea Bennett, Quinlynn Cunningham, Kaitlyn Leister and Issy Wright each stole a base as well.
 
IU Southeast (12-9, 6-0 RSC) returns to action on Saturday for a doubleheader on the road against Oakland City.
