OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team split a doubleheader with Oakland City on Tuesday, winning game one 8-0 in five innings and dropping game two 5-2.
McKenzie Walters led off with a solo home run in the top of the first of game one to give IU Southeast a quick 1-0 lead. After
Josie Lemmons singled and stole second,
Autumn Oehlstrom delivered an RBI double to make it 2-0 IU Southeast.
Brynlea Bennett reached on an error, allowing Oehlstrom to score to give IU Southeast a 3-0 lead.
After a
Cassi Roman double and a bunt hit from
Issy Wright in the top of the second,
McKenzie Walters connected on a double to score Roman and give IU Southeast a 4-0 lead. An
Autumn Oehlstrom RBI double made it 5-0 IU Southeast, and an RBI groundout by
Erin Templeman made it 6-0.
In the top of the third,
Katie Templeman bunted for a hit, stole second, and came around to score on a
McKenzie Walters single to give IU Southeast a 7-0 lead.
Autumn Oehlstrom led off the top of the fourth with a solo home run to give IU Southeast an 8-0 lead. IU Southeast would go on to secure an 8-0 run rule win in five innings.
Madison Wathen threw all five innings for IU Southeast, allowing only one hit while striking out 11.
McKenzie Walters and
Autumn Oehlstrom each had three hits and three RBIs for IU Southeast.
Oakland City scored first in game two, connecting on a two-run home run in the bottom of the second. After two singles and a groundout, a two-RBI single gave Oakland City a 4-0 lead.
IU Southeast loaded the bases with one out in the top of the third. After a popup made it two outs.
Macie Zink drew a bases loaded walk to make it 4-1.
A solo home run by Oakland City in the bottom of the fourth made it 5-1.
Issy Wright led off the top of the seventh with a double for IU Southeast. Wright advanced to third on a flyout and scored on a
Brynlea Bennett groundout. The Grenadiers put two more runners on, but Oakland City escaped the jam to secure a 5-2 victory.
Maci Warner got the start and threw the first 1.2 innings for IU Southeast.
Hallie Foley threw 4.1 innings in relief, allowing one run on four hits while striking out two.
IU Southeast only had five hits in game two. The lone extra base hit was a double by
Issy Wright.
IU Southeast (13-10, 7-1 RSC) returns to action on Friday for a home doubleheader against Ohio Christian.
