NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team swept a doubleheader against Point Park on Saturday, winning game one 10-0 in six innings and game two 4-1.
Point Park threatened in the top of the second. A hit by pitch, a stolen base and a wild pitch put a runner on third with one out, but
Maci Warner used a groundout and a strikeout to get out of the jam.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth. With one out,
Cassi Roman tripled to give the Grenadiers a runner on third.
McKenzie Walters singled with two outs to score Roman and give IU Southeast a 1-0 lead.
Brynlea Bennett followed with an RBI double to score Walters and make it 2-0 IU Southeast.
Autumn Oehlstrom delivered an RBI single to make it 3-0 Grenadiers, and
Erin Templeman followed with a two-run home run to give IU Southeast a 5-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Maci Warner led off with a single. With one out, pinch runner
Josie Lemmons stole second and came around to score on an
Issy Wright single to make it 6-0. After a hit by pitch and a wild pitch, the Grenadiers had runners on second and third with one out.
After a flyout made it two outs,
Autumn Oehlstrom singled to give IU Southeast a 7-0 lead.
Erin Templeman followed with a three-run home run to give IU Southeast a 10-0 win in six innings.
Maci Warner threw a complete game shutout for IU Southeast, allowing just three hits in six innings of work.
Erin Templeman went 2 for 4 with two home runs and five RBIs.
McKenzie Walters,
Brynlea Bennett,
Autumn Oehlstrom and
Macie Zink also had two hits each in the win.
IU Southeast scored first in game two. With two outs,
Autumn Oehlstrom walked and advanced to third on an
Erin Templeman single.
Macie Zink followed with an RBI single to give the Grenadiers a 1-0 lead.
With one out in the bottom of the second,
Cassi Roman doubled and advanced to third on a groundout. An RBI single by
McKenzie Walters scored Roman and gave IU Southeast a 2-0 lead.
Autumn Oehlstrom led off the bottom of the third with a solo home run to extend the IU Southeast lead to 3-0.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Autumn Oehlstrom and
Erin Templeman hit back-to-back doubles to give IU Southeast a 4-0 lead.
Point Park hit a home run in the top of the seventh, but IU Southeast would go on to secure a 4-1 win.
Madison Wathen threw a complete game in the win, allowing one run on two hits with 11 strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Autumn Oehlstrom and
Erin Templeman each had two hits for IU Southeast.
IU Southeast (17-10, 11-1 RSC) returns to action on Friday for a doubleheader at Rio Grande.
