Murphy Hits for the Cycle as Grenadiers Sweep Brescia

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Logan Murphy recorded a cycle as IU Southeast defeated Brescia 22-12 and 8-6 on Saturday.
 
Highlights from game one include:
 
  • Murphy putting the Grenadiers in front 5-4 with a three-run home run to left-center to cap off a five-run first inning for IU Southeast.
  • A seven-run fifth inning for IU Southeast extended the lead to 13-5. Trevor Goodwin had a two-run single in the inning and Slater Schield added a RBI single while Mason White drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
  • Seventh-inning RBI doubles by Ryan Kassel, Coulter Hamilton and Murphy tacked on three more runs and Murphy recorded his cycle with that hit as the lead grew to 17-9.
  • A double steal in the eighth led to another run as Grant Shepherd stole second and Schield stole home. Consecutive RBI singles by Hamilton and Konnor Scheidt plus an error scored three more runs and Schiedt ended the game by scoring on a wild pitch.
  • Murphy finished 4-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI. Schield, Hamilton, Powell and Putnam all had two hits and Hamilton and White each drove in two.
 
Game Two highlights:
 
  • Goodwin put IU Southeast in front 2-1 with a two-run single in the second.
  • After Brescia took a 5-2 lead in the third, a Putnam RBI single, followed by Max Flock being hit with the bases loaded and a sacrifice fly by Casey Brown tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
  • In the sixth, White led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Luke Powell. A RBI single by Putnam scored White. Mikaii Stoner hit an opposite-field single to left to score Ethan Burdette and Putnam.
  • Conner Fries worked two innings of relief, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three for his first win.
  • Mason White, Kody Putnam and Trevor Goodwin each had two hits. Kody Putnam finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Ethan Burdette scored twice and Putnam, Goodwin and Stoner each drove in a pair.
