BECKLEY, WV. – The IU Southeast softball team swept a doubleheader against WVU Tech on Saturday, winning game one 4-1 and game two 13-9.
IU Southeast scored first in game one. After
Macie Zink was hit by a pitch,
Kendall Brown delivered an RBI double to give IU Southeast a 1-0 lead.
Madison Wathen followed with an RBI groundout to make it 2-0.
In the top of the fourth,
Madison Wathen doubled with two outs to give IU Southeast a runner on second.
Cassi Roman followed with an RBI single to give the Grenadiers a 3-0 lead.
Issy Wright followed with a single and Roman came around to score on an error by the left fielder to make it 4-0.
WVU Tech scored a run in the bottom of the sixth on a double and an error to cut the IU Southeast lead to 4-1, but neither team scored in the seventh as IU Southeast secured a 4-1 win.
Madison Wathen threw six innings for IU Southeast, giving up one unearned run on two hits while striking out 15.
Hannah Nunemaker threw a perfect seventh to earn the save.
Cassi Roman led IU Southeast with two hits and an RBI.

IU Southeast jumped on the board first in game two as well. After a
Josie Lemmons single and an
Autumn Oehlstrom walk,
Erin Templeman delivered an RBI single to give IU Southeast a 1-0 lead. A throwing error on a stolen base attempt by Templeman allowed Oehlstrom to score to give the Grenadiers a 2-0 lead. Another error allowed Templeman to score to give IU Southeast a 3-0 advantage.
With two on and two outs in the top of the second,
Erin Templeman delivered a two-RBI double to extend the IU Southeast lead to 5-0.
Two singles and a double in the bottom of the third allowed WVU Tech to cut the IU Southeast lead to 5-2. A walk and an error allowed two more runs to score, making it 5-4. After an IU Southeast pitching change, a walk and an RBI single tied the game at 5-5. A double made it 6-5, and a three-run home run gave the Golden Bears a 9-5 lead.
After walks to
Erin Templeman and
Kendall Brown in the top of the fifth,
Savannah Gaither delivered a pinch-hit two-RBI triple to cut the WVU Tech lead to 9-7. After a walk to
Issy Wright, two runs came around to score on an error, allowing IU Southeast to take a 10-9 lead.
Autumn Oehlstrom followed with an RBI double to give IU Southeast an 11-9 lead.
With two runners on and two outs in the top of the sixth,
Issy Wright delivered a two-RBI single to make it 13-9 IU Southeast.
Neither team scored in the seventh as IU Southeast secured a 13-9 victory.
Maci Warner got the start, throwing 2.1 innings for IU Southeast.
Madison Wathen came in to get two outs in relief, and
Hallie Foley followed with four innings. Foley got the win, allowing no runs on five hits while striking out four.
IU Southeast (20-11, 14-2 RSC) hosts Midway for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
