NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team swept a doubleheader against Ohio Christian on Thursday, taking game one 12-2 in eight innings and game two 7-2 in a seven-inning contest.
IU Southeast scored first in game one. The Grenadiers had runners on second and third with one out in the top of the second. A popup gave Ohio Christian two outs, but an errant throw by Ohio Christian on a
Colin Long groundball allowed both runners to score to give IU Southeast a 2-0 lead.
Ohio Christian loaded the bases in the top of the third, but
Luke Schafer got IU Southeast out of the inning with a strikeout. In the bottom of the third, an
Ethan Burdette double and a
Max Flock single gave IU Southeast a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Slater Schield singled, stole second and then advanced to third.
Kody Putnam drove in Schield with an RBI single to give IU Southeast a 4-0 advantage.
Ethan Burdette singled to drive in Putnam to make it 5-0 Grenadiers.
Ohio Christian put runners on second and third with one out in the top of the fifth. An RBI single gave Ohio Christian their first run of the game to make it 5-1.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Logan Murphy led off with a walk.
Brayden Hazelwood followed with a single to put runners on first and third. A double steal allowed pinch runner
Mikaii Stoner to score, making it 6-1 IU Southeast.
Slater Schield then delivered an RBI single to give IU Southeast a 7-1 lead.
Kody Putnam followed with a double to drive in Schield and Hazelwood to give IU Southeast a 9-1 lead. A
Luke Powell sacrifice fly made it 10-1.
Ohio Christian scored a run in the top of the seventh to make it 10-2. In the bottom of the eighth,
Ethan Burdette singled, stole second and then came around to score on a throwing error to make it 11-2 IU Southeast.
Slater Schield walked it off with an RBI single to give IU Southeast a 12-2 run-rule win in eight innings.
Luke Schafer got the win for IU Southeast, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out four in five innings of work.

Conner Fries and
Zak Rasener threw the sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
Ethan Burdette went 5-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Slater Schield added three hits and two RBIs. IU Southeast stole five bases in the win.
Game two began as a pitcher's duel as the game remaining scoreless until the bottom of the fourth. After
Max Flock was hit by a pitch,
Casey Brown doubled to score Flock and give IU Southeast a 1-0 lead.
Ohio Christian answered with two runs in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the fifth,
Kody Putnam singled to put runners on first and second with one out.
Luke Powell doubled down the line to tie the game at 2-2.
Ethan Burdette followed with a two-RBI single to make it 4-2 IU Southeast.
IU Southeast loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth with no outs.
Mason White followed with a bases-clearing double to make it 7-2 IU Southeast. The Grenadiers would go on to win 7-2 in seven innings.
Connor Sims got the win, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out four in five innings of work.
Garrett Hill picked up the save after throwing the final two innings.
Mason White had three hits and three RBIs for IU Southeast. The Grenadiers had five doubles in the win.
IU Southeast (10-11, 3-2 RSC) closes their series against Ohio Christian with a single nine-inning contest scheduled for Friday at 12 p.m.
