NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team split a doubleheader with Midway on Tuesday, winning game one 12-4 in five innings and falling in game two 2-0.
 
IU Southeast scored first in game one. In the bottom of the first, Brynlea Bennett walked, and Autumn Oehlstrom singled to put runners on first and second with one out. Erin Templeman followed with an RBI single to give the Grenadiers a 1-0 lead. With runners on second and third, Kendall Brown delivered a two-RBI single to put IU Southeast ahead 3-0.
 
In the bottom of the second, three straight walks loaded the bases with no outs for IU Southeast. Brynlea Bennett came through with a two-RBI single to put IU Southeast ahead 5-0. After Autumn Oehlstrom walked, Erin Templeman doubled to drive in two more runs to give the Grenadiers a 7-0 edge. Macie Zink followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 8-0.
 
After two singles and a throwing error, IU Southeast had runners on second and third with no outs in the bottom of the third. McKenzie Walters pinch hit and singled up the middle to drive in two runs to give IU Southeast a 10-0 lead. With runners on the corners, Cassie Walls delivered an RBI groundout to put the Grenadiers up 11-0.
 
In the top of the fifth, Midway scored four runs to make it 11-4. In the bottom of the inning, a dropped fly ball allowed Brynlea Bennett to reach third. Autumn Oehlstrom followed with a sacrifice fly to give IU Southeast a 12-4 win in five innings.
 
Madison Wathen got the win for IU Southeast, throwing 4.1 innings total after being reentered to get the final out in the fifth. Wathen allowed one run on one hit while striking out 10. Savannah Gaither threw two-thirds of an inning in relief.
 
Josie Lemmons, Brynlea Bennett, and Erin Templeman each had two hits in the win. Templeman drove in three runs, and the trio of Bennett, McKenzie Walters, and Kendall Brown each drove in two. Macie Zink had the lone stolen base for the Grenadiers.
 
In game two, IU Southeast put runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the first but was unable to score.
 
Midway scored two runs with two outs in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead.
 
IU Southeast didn't have another base unner until the bottom of the fifth when Kendall Brown led off with a single. With one out, Cassi Roman doubled to put runners on second and third, but two straight popups allowed Midway to escape the jam and maintain a 2-0 lead.
 
IU Southeast put a runner on second in the seventh, but Midway was able to secure a 2-0 win.
 
The Grenadiers had four hits in the loss. Cassi Roman doubled, and Quinlynn Cunningham stole a base.
 
IU Southeast (26-13, 20-4 RSC) returns to action for a scheduled doubleheader at IUPUC on Wednesday.
