IU Southeast Clinches RSC Regular Season Championship on Senior Day

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team clinched the RSC Regular Season Championship and an automatic berth to the NAIA Softball Opening Round by sweeping Oakland City in a doubleheader on Senior Day.
 
IU Southeast scored first in game one. After Josie Lemmons walked and Brynlea Bennett doubled, Autumn Oehlstrom delivered an RBI single to make it 1-0 Grenadiers. An RBI single by Erin Templeman gave IU Southeast a 2-0 lead.
 
The Grenadiers loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the second. A two-RBI single by Brynlea Bennett gave IU Southeast a 4-0 lead. After Bennett stole second, Autumn Oehlstrom drove in two runs with a single to make it 6-0 Grenadiers. Kendall Brown delivered an RBI single to give IU Southeast a 7-0 lead.
 
Kendall Brown stole second and Madison Wathen was hit by a pitch. Cassi Roman followed with an RBI single to give the Grenadiers an 8-0 edge.
 
With runners on first and third with no outs in the bottom of the fourth, a sacrifice fly by Madison Wathen gave IU Southeast a 9-0 lead. Cassi Roman followed with an RBI double to make it 10-0 Grenadiers. Josie Lemmons drove in Roman with a double to give IU Southeast an 11-0 lead.
 
Oakland City scored two in the top of the fifth, but IU Southeast would go on to secure an 11-2 win in five innings.
 
Madison Wathen threw four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out 10. Hallie Foley closed the game in the fifth.
 
Autumn Oehlstrom had three hits and three RBIs. Josie Lemmons, Brynlea Bennett, and Cassi Roman all doubled in the win. Bennett, Roman, and Kendall Brown each stole a base.
 
Oakland City scored first in game two, using a single and a double in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
 
After a walk and a fielder's choice, Autumn Oehlstrom doubled in the bottom of the first to give IU Southeast runners on second and third with one out. Erin Templeman followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. Macie Zink singled to third base to load the bases with one out.
 
An RBI single by Kendall Brown gave the Grenadiers a 2-1 lead. An RBI fielder's choice by Madison Wathen made it 3-1 IU Southeast.
 
An infield single and two walks loaded the bases for IU Southeast in the bottom of the second. Macie Zink was hit by a pitch, which allowed a run to score to make it 4-1 Grenadiers.
 
Issy Wright walked, and Katie Templeman singled in the bottom of the fifth to give IU Southeast runners on first and second with one out. An RBI single by Brynlea Bennett gave IU Southeast a 5-1 lead. An RBI groundout by Autumn Oehlstrom made it 6-1 Grenadiers.
 
Oakland City answered with four runs in the top of the sixth to cut the IU Southeast lead to 6-5.
 
Macie Zink singled to open the bottom of the sixth, and Kendall Brown followed with a walk. A fielder's choice was the first out of the inning, but a throwing error allowed IU Southeast to put runners on second and third. A Cassi Roman sacrifice fly made it 7-5, and an Issy Wright RBI single gave the Grenadiers an 8-5 lead.
 
IU Southeast would go on to secure an 8-5 win to clinch the RSC Regular Season Championship for the second straight year.
 
Madison Wathen picked up her 17th win of the year, throwing five innings while striking out nine. Maci Warner threw the final two innings of the game to pick up the save.
 
Katie Templeman, Macie Zink, and Issy Wright each had two hits in the win. Eight different Grenadiers had an RBI. Autumn Oehlstrom doubled, and Erin Templeman had the lone stolen base for IU Southeast.
 
IU Southeast (32-13, 26-4 RSC) closes out their regular season in a doubleheader at Midway next Saturday.
