NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team defeated Campbellsville 13-3 in eight innings on Tuesday.
Colin Long led off the bottom of the first with a double and came around to score on a
Mason White single to give the Grenadiers a quick 1-0 lead.
Luke Powell followed with a two-run home run to make it 3-0 IU Southeast.
A solo home run in the top of the third by Campbellsville cut the Grenadier lead to 3-1. In the top of the fourth, the Tigers added another run to make it 3-2, but
Luke Powell threw a runner out at third from right field to end the inning.
Mason White hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend the IU Southeast lead to 4-2.
Luke Powell followed with a double, and
Kody Putnam singled to give IU Southeast a 5-2 lead.
A solo home run by Campbellsville in the top of the sixth cut the IU Southeast lead to 5-3.
After two walks and a sacrifice bunt, IU Southeast had runners on second and third with one out.
Colin Long scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-3 Grenadiers.
Ethan Burdette and
Mason White executed a double steal which allowed White to score to make it 7-3 IU Southeast.
Casey Brown singled to shortstop and
Brayden Hazelwood followed with a pinch-hit three-run home run to extend the IU Southeast lead to 10-3.
In the bottom of the eighth, three straight walks loaded the bases for IU Southeast with no outs.
Brayden Hazelwood was hit by a pitch which brought in a run to make it 11-3 Grenadiers.
Trevor Goodwin drew a bases loaded walk to give IU Southeast a 12-3 lead, and
Colin Long delivered a sacrifice fly to give the Grenadiers a 13-3 win in eight innings.
Zach Gutermuth got the start and the win, allowing two runs in four innings while striking out three.
Cade Reynolds followed with a scoreless inning.
Zak Rasener pitched the sixth, allowing one run in an inning of work.
Brendan Koester and
Oscar Welsh each threw a scoreless inning in relief.
Mason White led IU Southeast with three hits, including a home run.
Brayden Hazelwood homered and drove in four runs, and
Luke Powell also homered and drove in a pair of runs.
IU Southeast (29-15) hosts Point Park for a best two-out-three series beginning on Thursday.
