FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team dropped matches to Saint Francis and Taylor in the Onset Invitational on Saturday.
Saint Francis began the first set on a 7-1 run to force an early IU Southeast timeout. The Grenadiers responded with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 7-6.
Trailing 13-8, IU Southeast went on a 7-1 run to take a 15-14 lead. Saint Francis answered with a run to take a 20-15 edge. IU Southeast was able to cut the lead to two on a couple occasions, but it was Saint Francis who took the first set 25-20.
IU Southeast opened the second set on a 6-0 run. Saint Francis was able to cut the Grenadier lead to 11-9 before IU Southeast answered with a 3-1 run to extend their lead to 14-10. Saint Francis responded with a 6-0 run to take a 16-14 lead.
The teams traded points and were tied 22-22 late in the set. Saint Francis rattled off three straight points to take the second set 25-22.
The third set began with an 8-1 Saint Francis run. IU Southeast was able to cut the lead to 11-8, but Saint Francis answered with a 6-0 run to extend their lead to 17-8. IU Southeast was able to cut the lead to three at 23-20, but Saint Francis took the third set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
Jessi Kramer led IU Southeast with nine kills.
Brianna Bucher led the Grenadiers with 17 digs, and
Carly Mason led the team with 15 assists.
Haley Jaster had 4.0 blocks, and both
Jordan Vaughan and
Gracie Farmer had 3.0.
Carly Mason led IU Southeast with a trio of aces.
The first set of match number two saw a narrow 7-6 Taylor lead turn into a 9-6 advantage following a pair of kills.
Holding a 13-10 lead, Taylor used a 6-0 run to extend their advantage to 19-10. Taylor would take the first set 25-16.
IU Southeast held a 4-3 lead early on in set two, but a 5-0 run gave Taylor an 8-4 edge. Trailing 10-6, IU Southeast used an 11-1 run to take a 17-11 lead.
Taylor answered with a 6-1 run to narrow the deficit to one at 18-17. A kill by
Haley Jaster gave IU Southeast a 20-18 lead, but Taylor responded with a quick 3-0 spurt to swing the lead back in their favor at 21-20.
A 4-2 Grenadier run gave IU Southeast a 24-23 lead, but Taylor rattled off two points to take a 25-24 edge. IU Southeast tied the set at 25-25, but Taylor would take the second set by a score of 27-25.
The third set saw a 9-9 tie early on following a 5-1 run by IU Southeast. After Taylor took a 13-10 lead, the Grenadiers used a 6-1 run to take a 16-14 advantage.
Trailing 17-15, Taylor used a 6-0 run to take a 21-17 lead. Taylor would go on to take the third set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
Ella Brooks led IU Southeast with 11 kills, 16 digs, and two aces.
Carly Mason led the team with 18 assists, and
Kacy Hornish added 11.
Haley Jaster had 4.0 blocks,
Gracie Farmer had 3.0 and
Jessi Kramer had 2.0.
IU Southeast returns to action on Sept. 6 in the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament hosted by Indiana Tech.
