KOKOMO, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team fell to No. 11 IU Kokomo in three sets (20-25, 20-25, 15-25) on Thursday.
IU Southeast used a 6-0 run early in the first set to take a 10-5 lead. IU Kokomo answered with an 8-0 run to swing the lead back in their favor at 13-10. Trailing 17-12, IU Southeast used a 5-0 run to tie the set at 17-17. With the teams tied at 18-18, IU Kokomo closed the set on a 7-2 run to take the first set 25-20.
IU Southeast took an early 8-6 lead to start the second set. With the Grenadiers leading 13-10, IU Kokomo used a 6-1 run to take a 16-14 advantage. IU Southeast was able to tie the set at 16-16 before IU Kokomo answered with a pair of points to take an 18-16 edge. IU Southeast was able to cut the lead to one at 20-19, but a 5-1 run by IU Kokomo gave the Cougars a 25-20 second set win.
IU Kokomo led 10-4 to begin the third set. After IU Southeast cut the lead to 15-10, IU Kokomo used a 7-1 run to take a 22-11 lead. IU Southeast used a 4-0 run to narrow their deficit to 22-15, but IU Kokomo would go on to take the third set 25-15 and the match 3-0.
Haley Jaster led IU Southeast with seven kills and three blocks.
Ella Brooks also had seven kills.
Carly Mason led the Grenadiers with 11 assists, and
Ella Davidson had a team-high 15 digs.
IU Southeast returns to action on Saturday at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
