ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team fell to St. Mary-of-the-Woods in three sets (12-25, 15-25, 23-25) on Saturday.
IU Southeast led 4-3 early in the first set before an 11-1 run gave SMWC a 14-5 lead. A 6-0 run by the Pomeroys later in the set gave SMWC a 22-7 advantage. SMWC would go on to take the first set 25-12.
SMWC jumped out to an early 9-1 lead in the second set. IU Southeast was able to cut the SMWC lead to one at 13-12, but another 9-1 run by the Pomeroys extended their advantage to 22-13. SMWC took the second set 25-15.
A 6-1 run in the third set gave IU Southeast a 7-4 lead. SMWC would come back to take an 8-7 lead, but IU Southeast swung the lead back in their favor at 9-8. The teams fought back and forth as the set was tied at 12-12, 14-14, and 15-15. IU Southeast used a 3-0 run to take an 18-15 edge and force a SMWC timeout.
SMWC used a 4-1 run to tie the set at 19-19. IU Southeast took a 21-20 lead, but back-to-back points gave the Pomeroys a 22-21 edge. IU Southeast was able to tie the set at 22-22 and 23-23, but SMWC scored the final two points of the set to take the third set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
Haley Jaster and
Ella Brooks led IU Southeast with six kills apiece.
Carly Mason had 11 digs and nine assists to lead the team.
Madison Ramsey led the Grenadiers with 3.0 blocks.
IU Southeast returns to action on Tuesday for a home contest against Brescia.
