FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team dropped matches to Indiana Tech and IU Northwest in four sets on day two of the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament hosted by Indiana Tech.
IU Southeast and Indiana Tech were tied 8-8 in the first set before a 5-1 run gave the Grenadiers a 13-9 lead. Trailing 15-11, Indiana Tech went on a 4-0 run to tie the set at 15-15.
IU Southeast came back and took a 19-17 lead, but Indiana Tech closed the set on an 8-1 run to take the first set 25-20.
Indiana Tech used a 4-0 run to jump out to a 13-8 lead in the second set. IU Southeast cut the lead to one at 15-14 and 16-15, but a quick 3-0 run gave Indiana Tech a 19-15 edge.
After the Grenadiers cut the lead to 20-18, a 4-1 run gave Indiana Tech a 24-19 lead. IU Southeast rattled off three straight points to make it 24-22, but Indiana Tech took the second set 25-22.
IU Southeast jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the third set before a 6-1 run swung the lead in the favor of Indiana Tech at 13-11. IU Southeast tied the set at 15-15, but a 3-0 run gave Indiana Tech an 18-15 lead.
After a timeout, a 5-1 run by the Grenadiers gave IU Southeast a 20-19 edge. Indiana Tech took a 21-20 lead, but IU Southeast took the lead back at 22-21. With the teams tied at 22-22, IU Southeast used a 3-0 run to take the third set 25-22.
With the two teams tied at 6-6 to open the fourth set, Indiana Tech used a 6-0 run to take a 12-6 lead. A 5-1 run gave Indiana Tech a 17-7 edge, and Indiana Tech would go on to take the fourth set 25-12 and the match 3-1.
Ella Brooks led IU Southeast with 14 kills and four service aces.
Carly Mason had 17 assists, and
Kacy Hornish added 14.
Ella Davidson led the Grenadiers with 20 digs.
Madison Ramsey had 3.0 blocks to lead the team.
IU Northwest led 9-6 in the first set against IU Southeast before the Grenadiers cut the lead to 9-8. Leading 12-11, IU Northwest used a 3-0 run to take a 15-11 edge. IU Southeast was able to cut the lead to two at 16-14, but a 4-0 run gave IU Northwest a 20-14 advantage. IU Northwest would take the first set 25-21.
IU Southeast used a 9-1 run early in the second set to take a 12-6 lead. A 5-0 run later in the set extended the Grenadier edge to 19-10. IU Southeast would take the second set 25-15.
IU Northwest opened the third set with a 7-2 run. IU Northwest took a 12-4 lead before IU Southeast used a 5-1 run to narrow the deficit to four at 13-9.
IU Southeast cut the lead to three at 16-13 and 18-15, but each time IU Northwest answered with a point to stop the rally. IU Southeast narrowed their deficit to two at 20-18, but IU Northwest closed the third set on a 5-0 run to take the set 25-18.
IU Northwest began the fourth set with a 10-1 run. IU Southeast cut the lead to five at 13-8, but a pair of points extended the IU Northwest lead to seven at 15-8. IU Northwest took a 23-13 lead after a 4-0 run later in the set. IU Southeast used a 5-1 run to make it 24-18, but IU Northwest would take the fourth set 25-18 and the match 3-1.
Gracie Farmer led IU Southeast with 14 kills.
Kacy Hornish had 22 assists, and
Carly Mason had 17.
Ella Davidson led the team with 23 digs.
IU Southeast returns to action on Tuesday at home against Hanover.
