NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team fell to IU Columbus in five sets on Saturday.
Set one saw a back-and-forth affair as the teams were knotted up at 16-16. IU Columbus used a 4-1 run to take a 20-17 lead, but an 8-1 Grenadier run gave IU Southeast a 25-21 set one win.
Set two was very similar to set one. The two teams were tied at 17-17 before IU Columbus took a 20-18 lead. IU Southeast got within one at 22-21, but it was the Crimson Pride who took the second set 25-21.
IU Southeast took a 16-11 lead in the third set before IU Columbus stormed back to tie the set at 20-20. IU Southeast took a 21-20 lead, but the Crimson Pride used a 5-2 run to take the third set 25-23.
The fourth set saw IU Southeast once again hold a 16-11 lead. This time the Grenadiers kept their foot on the gas and cruised to a 25-15 set four win.
The fifth set saw each team trade a 3-0 run to make it 3-3. With the set tied at 5-5, IU Columbus used a 5-1 run to take a 10-6 edge. IU Southeast was able to cut the deficit to two at 12-10, but IU Columbus scored the final three points to take the set 15-10 and the match 3-2.
"Credit to IUC for showing up to play today," IU Southeast head coach Taylor Wilson-Evanczyk said. "They came in ready to make a statement and they did just that on our home floor."
IU Southeast was led in kills by
Haley Jaster, who had 15.
Ella Brooks had 17 digs and 13 kills.
Nicole Stratford added 10 kills.
Carly Mason had a career-high 47 assists and added 10 digs and five service aces.
Madison Ramsey had 6.0 blocks, and
Ella Davidson led the Grenadiers with 18 digs.
IU Southeast falls to 15-5 overall and 8-4 in RSC play. The Grenadiers return to action on Tuesday for a road contest against Oakland City.
