NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team fell to Rio Grande in straight sets on Saturday.
IU Southeast jumped ahead 15-11 in set one, but Rio Grande quickly tied the set up at 15-15. The Grenadiers took a 19-17 lead, but a 5-1 RedStorm run put Rio ahead 22-20. IU Southeast went back ahead 23-22, but Rio closed the set with three straight points to take the first set 25-23.
Set two was even until Rio took a four-point lead at 14-10. A run by the RedStorm extended their lead to six at 20-14. IU Southeast cut the lead to three at 20-17 and two at 24-22, but it was Rio who took set two 25-22.
Rio took an early 15-7 lead in the third set. The Grenadiers fought back to cut the lead to three at both 19-16 and 21-18, but Rio was not deterred as the RedStorm would go on to take the third set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
Ella Brooks led IU Southeast with 17 kills and 14 digs.
Carly Mason led the team with 24 assists.
"We have to figure out how to balance the game when we feel the pressure," IU Southeast head coach Taylor Wilson-Evanczyk said. "We will get there. Back to practice Monday with tunnel vision into next weekend."
IU Southeast falls to 11-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play. The Grenadiers return to action on Friday at Midway.
